What are oil-based highlights?
At Sweet T, our oil-based highlights use an oil lightener in place of bleach, and it conditions your hair while it lifts and tones. It can lift up to seven levels.
We've loved our oil-based highlights for over 15 years. We use Scruples' Oil Lightening System. It contains PBX (Protective Barrier Complex), which protects the dye molecule and deposits color deep into the hair while it conditions and adds shine.
Oil vs bleach
How is an oil lightener different from bleach?
Our Scruples oil lightener lifts color without the breakage and brass that bleach can leave behind. It won't over-lighten, and it never needs more than 20 volume peroxide.
Oil-based highlights are permanent and grow out with your hair. Unlike bleached hair with toner, they don't fade or turn brassy over time.

Prep
How do I prep for going blonde?
Condition and moisturize in the weeks before your color, then skip shampoo for about 48 hours so your scalp's natural oils can protect it.
- Deep condition during your last wash before color.
- Skip tight hairstyles and bobby pins that dig into your scalp.
- Bring photos of the blonde you want. One woman's blonde can be another woman's gray, or even red.
- Plan on touch-ups every four to twelve weeks, depending on your shade and the health of your hair.
- Use products made for color-treated hair, and shampoo less often. Dry shampoo and co-washing help.
